Welcome to Sinclair Wetlands!

Nestled between Lakes Waihola and Waipori this area, known as the Sinclair Wetlands or, by its Māori name, Te Nohoaka o Tukiauau (‘the settlement of Tukiauau’), contains habitat essential for the survival of many bird and fish species. Described as the most important privately owned wetland in New Zealand, it is also an area rich in history and tradition of Ngāi Tahu, the tangata whenua (people) of this area.

Just 50 kilometres south of Dunedin you can take a stroll around this wetlands and leave the busy world behind. Enjoy the tranquility of this unique waterfowl park where the only sounds you’ll hear are the songs and calls of the many ducks, geese, swans and other birds who have made these wetlands their home.

You are free to walk around anytime during the hours of daylight upon a gold donation. There are several kilometres of well maintained walking tracks and points of interest are clearly marked by a series of informative signs.

Guided tours can also be arranged for tour parties, clubs and school visits (contact here).
